Love all this Esther. In Australia and have been wearing linen shorts set for past two years (at home because I have to take the dog out of our apartment all the time and need something comfy at home that is respectable on street) and then perfect for holiday (ghostly pallor so long sleeves and button up to neck useful). Highly recommend this one, still looks fresh and they do different colours. Shorts are not as short as they look here if you size up. https://www.net-a-porter.com/en-au/shop/product/deiji-studios/lingerie/tops/the-03-washed-linen-shirt-and-shorts-set/45666037504966056?cm_mmc=Google-ProductSearch-AU--m-_-NAP_EN_AU_PLA-_-NAP+-+APAC+-+AU+-+GS+-+SSC+-+L1+-+Clothing--APAC+-+AU+-+L1+-+Clothing-_-__pla-1663635468384_APAC&gbraid=0AAAAADRhZnscA8epq7Ne6wqx6YjrUkJs-&gbraid=0AAAAADRhZnscA8epq7Ne6wqx6YjrUkJs-&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItfStz73m-AIVxjUrCh1ppAuCEAQYAiABEgJTj_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Esther, I hear you. Was in London on Saturday for my nephew's birthday lunch in Covent Garden and had a brief recce in Regent Street. HORRIFIED. I agree about not needing many clothes, too. My only purchase this year is a pair of navy toe-post Birkenstocks. On beachwear, I have one ridiculous rule/fantasy- if I was on a balcony in Portofino with Bryan Ferry, would he approve??? We'll never know... sigh. Lisa E xx

I miss lockdown for not having the slightest inclination to shop - I saved soo much and now I’m back to browsing and being “influenced” into stuff I don’t need!!!

God i hear you. I've got my brothers weddign in 3 weeks. I cannot 'shop my wardrobe' as I have pandemic extra weight and everything i have bought since is too casual. I ordered fuck loads of stuff all of which looks awful. so now i ACTUALLY HAVE TO GO TO SHOPS ON A SATURDAY. wish me luck in london this weekend. i may cry into a drink at 11am.

any advice please please send. i'm thinking i might actually end up spaffing too much money on something (with the internal thought that i suppose i could rent it out... yes i've tried renting there are not enough 14/16 dresses on there!)

There’s no way I could pull off wearing one of those linen sets on the beach without looking like Paddington escaping from prison. I so like the idea though. This is very helpful every now and again though, I just read a thing about what I shouldn’t be wearing any more, and it made me feel like I was too dated to leave the house. Baseball caps, eh?

Any Zara shop is a hellhole. And yes their website is possibly worse.

Although their Zara home stores are the opposite - well set out, inspiring and calm . So they COULD do it right if they wanted to! I suspect they make enough money from their clothing stores to not give a damn about trying to make them nice places though.

The only clothing retail shop I feel like I could spend more than 5 minutes in is Theory - they seem to get it right. Their shop assistants can be a bit hit and miss on the charm front though….

Totally agree, I used to go to Zara Home on anxious hangovers to ease the dread.

PS Veja’s are uncomfortable. For the summer I have a pair of dead plain white flat sneakers for mucking about in, and a pair of Axel Arigato which I LOVE for non-beach/mud wear

Vejas are horribly uncomfortable, for my feet, anyway. I’m still wearing my AF ones as they’re great. I see lots of Young People *waves cane* wearing Nike Dunks and I might go for them next as they come in nice colours and are chunky and cool-looking.

Totally agree. Last time

I tried to go shopping it made me feel sick it was so grim! I now fill the urge to buy more shit by watching WTF hacks and fancy diy stuff on Instagram. I folded every throw/ blanket in the house yesterday in a so simple but chic way I actually sent pictures to my sister. She told me i need to get a life but then gave the new fold a go!! Eating my way through a shit load of Ferrero next as I need the box X

Mark’s and Spencer’s have brilliant on trend jeans, in cuts that actually suit a woman with hips! Go to a large shop, on a quiet morning after restock and try a million pairs on! I really like their ‘Barrel’ jeans, I have them in light blue and black and they definitely don’t make me look like a barrel!

Anon, Esther and anyone else who has Tevas - are they as comfy as they look? I love a bulky sandal but think they need to be comfy in return for the (brilliant) ugliness!

Hi! I’m with you on Zara. I live in Portugal. A small city in the north. We do have one Zara store and is one too many! Poor assistants that work there! I can only be there for 5 minutes top! And I always give up on their website/app! Terrible!
