Sliding in late to say I found this post very helpful

I read this. Thought Absolutely Not. And have just spent my last conference call stocking up for the summer for the 9yr old on Vinted... the little ones just wear hand me downs.

My son will wear anything and gets about in uniqlo shorts and any old t shirt with trainers or crocs. His older sister (13) chooses all her own clothes and would never dream of wearing something I had bought without her approval.

Thank you thank you my ‘god’ daughter is needing of such sartorial info (she’s so tall, and finding clothes that fit the height is interesting)

I’m with you on shopping a season ahead! Mostly through Vinted these days. And I always stash loads a size up so it’s fun discovering things I’d forgotten about. Luckily they’re 4 & 2 so don’t have too strong opinions yet!

Gosh, I wish my children would accept M&S and sandals! I am at the peril of incredibly expensive taste and items that have “ drops” ( Trapstar) . So have decided that they need to buy & sell these items on vinted & seems to be going ok. Cheaper and they are taking responsibility for purchasing their clothes ( 15 & 13) . Currently scrolling Brandy Melville for niece, whole new world.

Hard pass. Just limping out of Feb half term, and haven't even begun to consider Easter holiday childcare. They will just have to make do with whatever the Next website has in stock 24-48 hours ahead of whatever it is they need clothes for!

Heads up - World Book Day is in two and a half weeks. 7th March.

Yes, it is time!

I have a seven year old who has very strong ideas about what is comfortable, so I spend a lot of time, starting about now, scouring the furthest reaches of Vinted for things she will find acceptable that also don't make me want to puke. And Skechers sandals. What have I done to deserve this?!

My five year old boy is extremely biddable and will happily wear delicious combos of JoJo shorts, Bobux sandals and nice t-shirts, and generally look like a little French boy.

Oh and multi-packs of Next tshirts for both - for camp, messing about, etc. They're genuinely great and have lovely boys' colours if you dig beyond the grey and navy.

My daughters are 14 and nearly 11. They have very particular ideas of what they will and won't wear. You won't get the older one into anything from M&S bar underwear and socks. She's into Brandy Melville and Subdued and mercifully will wear Birkenstocks. The younger one is happy in dresses - mostly handme downs and likes Zara kids and M&S, also H&M. She wears Birkenstock sandals rather than the Arizona. It's checking out the swimwear and in particular period swimwear that is important as those sizes sell out fast. WUKA is a favourite. I also need to remind myself what I shoved under the bed last autumn before I buy it again!

I too think that sorting the kids clothes out in advance saves time in the long run. I am at the other end - my kids are 6 years to 2 years (4 of them!!) - so I do a mini capsule wardrobe for each of them. Key is only two pairs of shoes, either sandals and crocs in the summer or trainers and wellies in the winter. They wear their shoes out so I don’t have to store them. I also buy two smart outfits per kid each half a year, a size up, so they last for two years. I then negotiate high days and holidays when they have to wear what I choose. But making sure they have the right clothes, that look nice, and doesn’t cost a fortune, is an ongoing challenge!

It’s not just you. In fact I find I buy the summer stuff so bloody early I forget what I’ve got.

We are just packing up the car for a few days away (stressful enough)while my nine year old sings a song about diarrhoea and keeps smacking us on the bottom. Joy
