My own advice to anyone when looking for anything fiddly - jeans, bras - is this:
1 invest in a dressmaker’s tape and take proper measurements of yourself
2 spend a solid week ordering 15+ items off the internet in various colours and sizes and dedicate yourself to receiving, trying on, sending back. Commit to sending things back. Say to yourself, “I love taking things to the post office,” so often that it becomes true.
I haven’t taken my own advice for bras for years, living in a clutch of stretchy, unflattering, unsupportive things that make my boobs look 1) like it was only one boob 2) wobbly and 3) massive.
I know I’m whining now, but I got to this point because I’d go into a department store, baulk at the rails and rails of itchy-looking bras, try three on (randomly guessing at my size, which was then often not available), get hot and sweaty and upset in the changing room, then go home with nothing to show for it.
But the last week or so, I got a grip. I measured myself, asked for recommendations and then ordered, tried on, sent back, got different sizes, ordered, tried on, kept some, sent back. It was sort of a madness but I have solved the problem
Below are the best bras I found, from Instagram brands to high street stalwarts - with one of my favourites only £18.
